kitesurf trip to alvor

Tickets for my next kiteboarding adventure are in the pocket! The 9th of June I will leave for a wind- and sun packed kitesurf trip to Alvor, Portugal. They say that Alvor has it all: butter flat water on the lagoon and windspeeds of 18+ knots. The wind usually starts to blow in the afternoon so I can spend my mornings working before hitting the water.

Kitesurfspots in and around Alvor

Alvor Lagoon

The reason I want to visit this quiet fishing village. The lagoon is waist deep and super flat. I am staying at the Hostel Alvor where they arrange free boat transfers to the lagoon! It is supposed to be quit a walk. Besides that, the thermic wind in Alvor picks up in the afternoon. Often times you start riding on a 12 and with some

It is supposed to be quite a walk. Besides that, the thermic wind in Alvor picks up in the afternoon. Often times you start riding on a 12 and with some luck, you will have to step down to 9 and even 7!

Alvor ocean side

If it is waves that you want you can kitesurf on the ocean side. Often the wind is mostly offshore at this beach. The Southwest Algarve has many beautiful kitesurfspots that work with different wind- and swell directions.

Kitesurf season in Alvor

The best time to go kitesurfing in Alvor is in the summer months. The kitesurf season is starting in May and lasts until September. The Nortada wind is blowing and the wind strength is between 16-25 knots most days but it is not super predictable. Usually when I book a kitesurf vacation I am taking a couple of weeks but this time I am only going for a week so really hoping for some wind!

How to get to Alvor

It is pretty easy to get to Alvor from the Netherlands. Book a flight to Faro and from there you can arrange a transfer, hop on the bus (though I heard the bus takes almost all day) or rent a car. I am not sure how I will get to Alvor yet since I don’t have the best experiences with rental cars ;). I can’t wait for my kitesurf trip to Alvor that’s for sure!
