Kitesurfing as a moving meditation

December 6, 2016

Nowadays people are always busy, always rushing and stress levels are getting so high that it is really unhealthy. One way to deal with all this pressure and find peace and relaxation is through meditation. Meditation is an ancient practice that helps us to control our mind and thoughts. Through meditation you can eliminate negative thoughts and worries. Besides that, meditation can help you to discover more about yourself, your wishes and desires.

Benefits of meditation

  • Reduces pain and enhances the body’s immune system
  • Helps control thoughts
  • Increases blood flow and slows the heart rate
  • Helps reverse heart disease
  • Reduces feelings of depression, anxiety, anger and confusion
  • Provides a sense of calm, peace and balance
  • Increases energy
  • Reduces stress

Meditation comes in different forms. You can sit very still and focus on your breath. You could also choose for a moving meditation. You can practise this in the form of Yoga, Tai Chi or Qigong. Just focus on the sensation and pleasure in every movement. Moving meditation allows you to be conscious of your body and movement and get into the flow, connect with yourself, nature or the divine. I am already hooked to yoga but kitesurfing is also a perfect way to clear my mind and to live in the here and now.

Kitesurfing to me feels like a moving meditation. I am one with the elements such as the wind and the sea. It is at times like that that I feel truly free. At the end of a session I am filled with happiness and enough good memories to last me a couple of days :). So therefore I have decided to quit my office job next year and start teaching kitesurf lessons again. I am super excited about the new year where I will listen to my gut and start building a life full of freedom and time spent near the ocean! Whoohooooo.
